We recently moved, it was a big move and changed many parts of our life. Prior to the big day, both Greg (hubby) and I had some anxiety. The what if's, the how, and when's and being without our familiar surroundings was a little bit disconcerting. Then we had the bigger issues, How would the dogs: Harley & Jojo adjust, and even a bigger concern how would Maury, our cat adjust! We planned for the worst and hoped for the best....... As the world of house selling and buying goes, we were not able to time it so we could buy and sell on the same day. So we had a few days of being homeless. Fortunately for us we were not truly homeless, but lived at the kennel for a few days, Maury at the kennel was not a good fit, so Maury spent a few days with 'Aunt Karen, Uncle Steve and cousin Pumpkin'. I am happy to report all went very well, and as in all my life experiences I learned many new lessons. Here are a few that might help you when you have to change your pet's life in some way!
- Our attitude directly reflects our animals attitude. Our pets pick up on our anxiety, fears and expectations! So expect good things and your dogs will too!
- Set up a structure - even if the structure is only going to be in place for a few days it helps your dog to know what to expect. We had one structure while staying at the kennel and another at the new 'Home Sweet Home.'
- Cut yourself some slack, everything doesn't have to be perfect. Our dogs and even our cat Maury are very adaptable! Attention and love goes a long way!
